A composite material usually consists of a matrix, a binder and reinforcement. Considering concrete as one material and reinforcement as another material with different properties, than it should be kept in mind that before any internal cracking the reinforcement usually carries small load. However, after cracking the situation becomes reversed in the sense that reinforcement carries very high loads in comparison to concrete.
